Study Group

Our study group, led by members of our Study Group Committee, meets four times a year to review the latest research on dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. Parents, educators, and allied professionals are welcome to join the discussion.

Our Next Study Group will meet

Saturday, November 18

When: Saturday, November 18  10:00 a.m. noon
Location:  North Hollywood Area
Exact address and copies of the articles for discussion will be emailed after RSVP.

Our Topic:

Math Fluency

The incidence of mathematics disability or dyscalculia is comparable to dyslexia.  Sir Winston Churchill suffered from difficulties with math in school - not difficulties with reading, as is commonly thought.  Learning math requires being "math literate," understanding the numerical system and successfully using rules to make calculations.  We will examine the findings and theories in two articles, one on math fluency and one comparing the teaching of math and reading.

We welcome educators, parents, and interested adults. Our discussions include the sharing of practical and personal experiences and responses that relate to the research topic.
